Uncut
is a tragic, visceral story of two teenagers coming together to navigate
through life when it begins to drown them.
High
school can be tough, but for Waverly Moore, high school is pure hell. Her mom
is dead, and her dad has made a mess of their lives. Because of his sins, Waverly
has to start over in a new school for the fourth time in nine months. But it
won’t be long before the school finds out what he did. It won’t be long before
they’ll have to move again. If she stays invisible, maybe everyone will just
leave her alone.
Since
moving to Albion, life for Gaige Gentry has sucked. The rigid mentality of the
locals has labeled him as the outsider. His skin color is different. His family
dynamic is different. The kids in school have nothing better to do than target
all their hateful words and fists on him. He just needs to finish out the year,
then he can move back to Chicago away from this hellhole.
Their
paths cross when a fight erupts on the bus home. Unwilling to bring attention
to his family, Gaige puts up with getting his face pummeled and does nothing to
defend himself. Unable to sit and watch, Waverly launches her body into the mix
and breaks up the fight.
The
two wade through the murky water in their lives, finding something beautiful to
hold onto. But what happens when a broken soul gets cut again? Will their love
for each other be enough to keep two cut edges together, or will they become
severed permanently?
