Getting Started Again

So, It's been well over a year since I told myself that I would maintain a blog in order to promote my writing.  Well, things came up, and publishing my writing got set aside.

Now, I am trying to get back in it.  I'm always careful with my choice of words when I write something for people to see, but I've come to realize that being too careful is a bad thing.  Being too careful has left me with an empty blog and no voice.

I'm really excited about one of my manuscripts called, In Pieces.  I haven't published it, but I've edited it at least four (maybe five) times and feel like it's time to let it go.

The book takes you through a young girl's life from her teenage years to a young adult.  While living her ordinary teenage life, she discovers that a lot of darkness and conflict can creep in.  It's revealed that her brother, Nathan, has a drug problem and Mel, the main character, is changed in her quest to help him.  Nathan's addiction is the catalyst for many horrible things that happen to her, altering her ability to feel life.  She learns what happens when you run away from a problem, and how easy it is to be numb to the pains and pleasures of life.  Mel needs to rediscover herself and find out if she's able to forgive.

The story was easy to write on one hand because I have so many opinions concerning drug addiction; but it was impossible to write because I want this story to reach people...affect them.  So, the writing process held a little more angst versus my typical obsessive writing technique (really, sleep isn't necessary).

Hopefully, I'll update this blog regularly and, when I get more comfortable with it, I'll have more to say.

Thanks for reading!
